I met Bonni in 2000 when she was appointed Assistant Commissioner for Field Ops at Customs. I was a trade industry representative on the Customs Oversight Advisory Committe and had the opportunity to work with her through my role there. In early 2002, shortly before Bonni retired from Customs, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Unknown to me, Bonni had been battling breast cancer for some time. When she learned of my situation she reached out for me, helped me understand my treatment options and was an unbelievable support for me. I will be forever grateful for her kindness, wisdom, friendship, support, sense of humor and sense of fashion!! I am dedicating my annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston in October to Bonni in the hopes that we can fund more research to help eradicate this disease. Bonni....thanks for your friendship and your guidance.
