Bonni and I have been in and out of each others' lives since junior high. At the University of Fla., we dated friends, brewed "spells", and did a lot of late night talking. Yes, Bonni was a rolemodel for women in law enforcement and service to their country, but what I will always remember is the way she conducted herself through the stages of the disease that finally took her life. This is where she is truly a rolemodel for all of us. She fought it, she hardly ever complained, she worked hard..even traveling to China and other exotic places like Texas to negotiate BIG deals for Pinkerton. She always looked great..dressed in her St. John's with THE jewelry. She enjoyed the life she had. About 2 years ago, she was the speaker at a WIZO tea (a charity I'm active in) and so impressed everyone that people continue to ask after her. Around that same time, Bonni talked me into going to our 40th Miami Beach High School reunion together. We had a great time even though she had surrendered her title to "most unusual career" by that time. This year she was selected for The Miami Beach High School Hall of Fame, something that I think gave her pleasure. It's difficult to lose those "who knew you when" - I'll miss Bonni.
